Kelp Ecosystems are now known to be quite helpful for re-establishing Salmonids as they utilize its cover value, food chain components, and sheltering effects. Southern sea otters, Enhydra lutris, or even possible northern sea otters consume purple urchins which have been found to stymie bull kelp populations. The sea otters diet , also , includes crabs which allow sea slug populations to thrive benefitting Eel grass by consuming the algae which might coat and smother eelgrass or other maritime grasses.

I’d love to hear input from current students. I’m looking to move on from Portland State and into a Masters program after I earn my bachelors at the end of this upcoming winter term. I wanted to be somewhere very progressive as far as sustainability applied to the real-world goes, especially in the urban sector. Unfortunately this staple of PSU has fallen to the wayside, since the pandemic struck, and PSU has not put as much effort as not restore it programs back to former strength. Unfortunately the number of classes that have been cut and not replaced since the pandemic is staggering. I also frequently get pigeon-holed into classes that I don’t want, as a result. Which has sharpened my knowledge of fields that I don’t see a future in for myself, and that has caused a lack of developed skills needed in fields that I AM interested in! I get the impression that this isn’t the case at CPH. How out of place would I be as a 32 year old grad student? How large are classes? What’s the teacher to student ratio? What kind of literal “hands-on” teaching methods have been introduced and/or applicators at/by CPH, especially outside of the campus? Has there been any evidence of Arcata or Eureka expanding in population as a response to Humboldt earning the Cal Poly distinction? Such economic growth is extremely pertinent to my specific interests. These are all real important factors in my my grad program. I’ve had quite enough of sitting in a classroom, taking notes, splitting up into 5 minute discussion groups, finishing the class by taking more notes, all to rinse and repeat over and over again. Please tell me CPH is more equipped , actively instilled with sustainable practices and that I can effectively succeed with and make us of the program described in this video, coming from an originally extremely broad scope, which gradually zoned more and more into human-aid, as well as urban sustainability.

    • @portlandgoose4727

What are the opportunities to apply the sustainable practices, methods, and procedures that we’ve learned here, but that we can apply in a more urbanized, or even suburbanized region? Thanks 😃
